General

Koneenrakennuskilta ry has a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment. The guild does not tolerate harassment in any form and any instances of harassment will be dealt with immediately. The guild has a responsibility to ensure a safe and equal environment for its members, regardless of their ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation, or other characteristics.

Harassment refers to inappropriate behaviour, which can, for example, manifest as verbal or physical bullying, as racist or sexist jokes, unwanted physical contact, as unwanted messages, as threats, as sexual harassment, or as social exclusion. Harassment includes everything that you find personally offensive or distressing and no one has the right to belittle these feelings.

You can get directly in touch with the guild’s harassment contact persons by emailing hairinta@koneenrakennuskilta.fi or via the following Google Forms link bit.ly/KRKhahy. Reported cases of harassment will be dealt with on the terms of the person who reported it. The guild’s harassment contact persons will not pursue cases of harassment without the consent of the harassed person and all cases will be handled with confidentiality. Harassment contact persons are committed to act on cases of harassment with confidentiality and respect for all parties involved.

Harrasment Cases

• No one should have to deal with harassment by themselves and it is important that cases of harassment are reported to harassment contact persons.

• If you witness harassment or are the victim of it, inform the harasser that their behaviour constitutes harassment. It is better to deal with the situation than to stand by and watch.

• If you witness harassment at an event, you can contact the event organiser, or the harassment contact persons at the event. You can always contact the guild’s or LTKY’s harassment contact persons. You can contact harassment contact persons even if you are not certain that what you have witnessed constitutes harassment.

• If you witness a crime, you should contact the police.

• If you are informed that your behaviour constitutes harassment, reconsider your behaviour, and be prepared to change it and to apologise.

Handling of Cases

Harassment contact persons will not pursue a case of harassment without the consent of the person who has been harassed. With the consent of the person who has been harassed the following measures may be taken:

• The person suspected of harassment will be informed that their behaviour has been reported as harassment. The perspectives of all parties involved in the situation will be heard and listened to with equal treatment and the contents of all discussions will remain solely between the harassment contact person and the parties involved.

• The guild’s harassment contact person may also direct the person who has experienced harassment contact LTKY’s harassment contact persons among others.

In clear and even repeated cases of harassment, the following measures may be taken:

• Resignation from positions of trust: in clear cases of harassment the capability of the perpetrator to continue in their position of trust may be reviewed. Cases will be reviewed together by the harassment contact person, chair of the guild’s board, and the person suspected of harassment. If necessary, in a board or general meeting it will be announced that the person suspected of harassment has resigned for personal reasons.

• Warning: harassment contact persons, together with the chair of the guild’s board, may issue a warning to the person suspected of harassment.

If, despite warnings, the person’s behaviour remains unchanged the following measures may be taken:

• Participation ban: harassment contact persons together with the chair of the guild’s board may propose that a person suspected of harassment be subjected to a participation ban from all of the guild’s events with the exception of board and general meetings. The duration of the ban may last one to six months and is determined on a case-by-case basis. The proposal must then be approved by the guild’s board.

• Expulsion from the guild: if the same person is repeatedly suspected of harassment, in spite of previous measures, those causing harassment may no longer be welcome in the guild or at the guild’s events. Expulsion from the guild is an extreme measure only to be carried out with very strong reasoning based on the guild's rules.
